#STOPEACOP

The Zambia Youth Environmental Network took part in the Global virtual campaign help against the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) that is meant to run from Uganda to Tanzania.

French oil giant Total and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation are on the cusp of building a massive crude oil pipeline right through the heart of Africa – displacing communities, endangering wildlife and tipping the world closer to full-blown climate catastrophe.

EACOP threatens to displace thousands of families and farmers from their land and has already disrupted the livelihoods of many. If allowed to move forward, it would also place at risk vital water sources that millions of people rely upon for drinking and food production.

The construction of this pipeline will rip through some of the world’s most important elephant, lion and chimpanzee nature reserves. There’s also concern that the pipeline will open up more critical ecosystems to even more oil extraction.

EACOP will also fuel climate change by enabling the extraction of oil which will generate over 34 million tons of CO2 emissions every single year. To solve the climate crisis, we must stop building new fossil fuel projects.

The network invited several creative youths that made presentations through poems, songs and speeches. the event was graced by a B-Flow, a renowned artist who made a presentation on climate issues and the need for solidarity against the construction of the EACOP. The event was aired lic=ve on Facebook and Twitter.

Above are the photo highlights of the event.

Zambia Youth Environmental Network

Zambia Youth Environmental Network knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives. Back in 2020, our Climate Change Non-Profit Organization realized that by Youths working together, we could mitigate the effects of climate change and help society adopt environmentally sustainable practices. We believe the Youths have a major role to play in this plight. It is for this reason that we ultimately decided to launch Zambia Youth Environmental Network.
